Before the visit to Latvia, the vice-presidents of the Seimas representing the opposition Jonas Jarutis, Julius Sabatauskas, Andrius Mazuronis proposed to listen to Ž. Pavilionis’ explanations to the Board regarding his statements in Sakartvele not only to the media, but also to the Board of Seimas.

The chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Seimas Žygimantas Pavilionis visited the capital of Sakartvelas in Tbilisi from February 19 to 22. After the blessing of the Seimas board, he went there to support Sakartvelas’ aspiration to resume political dialogue and stabilize the situation in the country, but when he returned to Lithuania, he received mixed reactions due to alleged inappropriate rhetoric.

As ELTA has already announced, the Speaker of Parliament, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, says that the chairman of the Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee (URK), the conservative Žygimantas Pavilionis, needed to be especially diplomatic during his visit to Sakartvelas.

The president of the Seimas notes that any careless declaration by “hostile forces” will be used to damage relations between Lithuania and Sakartvelas.

“It is obvious that even with a very strong personal position, when we went to Sakartvela, we had to be especially diplomatic,” V. Čmilytė-Nielsen told LRT radio.

The chairman of the Seimas Foreign Affairs Commission was criticized when he visited Sakartvele and participated in a press conference of opposition forces, saying that the arrest of Nartor Melia, the Sakartvele opposition leader, could provoke an international response and possible sanctions. .

The political crisis in Sakartvele started after the October parliamentary elections, which were overshadowed by suspicions of fraud.
