The man was deprived of his right to drive for violating the Road Traffic Rules (KET), crossing a continuous line. For this reason, he was deprived of the right to drive for three months. However, as the Delfi reader said, since driving is directly related to the man’s income, he asked the court for a reduced sentence.
The court agreed: instead of three months, the right to drive was revoked for a month and a half. However, if he wanted to get his driver’s license back, the man was confused: it was not possible to do so until the quarantine was announced in Lithuania.
It turns out that to regain the right to drive, you need to complete additional driving training. However, these are not prepared due to the quarantine regulations in force in Lithuania. The man said he had applied to both Regitra, which issues driving licenses, and the Ministry of Transport, but did not hear a response on what to do, only a reprimand that it was simply necessary not to violate the KET.
We will have to wait
According to a response from the Ministry of Transport and Communications sent to Delfi, the Road Safety Law stipulates that a person who has been disqualified from driving due to traffic violations (TFE) will only receive reimbursement after completing additional driver training. This obligation is enshrined in legislation at the legislative level and is a necessary condition for the return of the right to drive. There are no other ways to regain the right to drive.
“Additional training includes not only theory, but also practical driving training. During the announced quarantine on the territory of Lithuania, it is not possible to organize a practical driving training, therefore a driver who has lost the right to drive due to a violation of the KET will be able to take these trainings only after the end of the quarantine or its conditions are relaxed, ”the ministry wrote.
As the representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications explained, the question of whether additional training should be allowed was discussed in the Ministry, but it is not envisaged to propose changes to the provisions of the law governing the essential principles of driving.
“It should be noted that the right to drive vehicles is deprived of serious violations of the TFE, so this right cannot be restored in a way other than that provided by law. In order to regain the right to drive a vehicle, we propose to wait for the Government’s decision, which will allow driving training institutions to resume practical driving training activities ”, emphasized the Ministry.
When just training is enough
As Emilija Bardauskienė, specialist of the communication department of SE Regitra, explained to Delfi, if a person has been deprived of the right to drive for less than a year, then it is necessary to apply to a driving school and complete additional training there. . It is not necessary to take exams in the Registry.
In the event that the driver is intoxicated, an additional medical certificate must be provided in accordance with the mandatory training program on alcohol and drug-related harm to human health, as well as a driver’s medical certificate (to be issued after a KET violation).).
It is important to note that the implementation of the above requirements restores the right to drive for these people as is customary at the Regitra branch.
When should you take the exams too?
If drivers are deprived of the right to drive for a year or more due to KET violations, they will have to complete not only additional training at the driving school, but also pass the theory and practice exams in the “Register”.
Drivers who are behind the wheel while intoxicated or intoxicated will also need a medical certificate and a new medical certificate.
Theoretical examinations are currently being conducted to ensure security and flow management requirements. At that time, the practice exams are not carried out in accordance with the Government Resolution. It will be possible to keep them after the quarantine restrictions end.
