During the press conference to introduce the initiative, NVSC director R. Lingienė reiterated that the spread of the virus in Lithuania has reached such a level that since the end of October NVSC can no longer track all infected contacts, resulting in in rampant viruses and crowded hospitals.

An essential part of managing a pandemic

“One person can investigate about four cases per shift. Currently we have more than a thousand cases a day, it is possible to calculate how many specialists are needed, ”he said.

R. Lingienė stated that now various initiatives and the assistance of people and volunteers are very important to manage the situation.

“I am glad that good people have appeared who have heard a cry for help for the situation in Lithuania,” he said about the new initiative “Let’s overcome together. “Everything happened very quickly and since yesterday a new call center has been in operation, where infected people are interviewed and the epidemiological situation is carried out, which is a fundamental part of managing the pandemic.”

The temporary COVID-19 call center employs theoretically and practically trained staff.

“At the same time, we want to encourage commercial companies to contribute to this initiative and help as much as they can with this initiative, both financial, infrastructure and human resources,” R. Lingienė told Lithuanian companies.

Up to 100 jobs are planned

Laimonas Baliukonis, promoter of the initiative and head of strategy at the marketing agency MP agency, said that the business idea to contribute to the management of the pandemic came quite unexpectedly, at home.

“It just came to our knowledge then. Looking at the knowledge and looking at social media, I came across the recording of R. Lingienė, where she asks for help, saying that people are missing. We, as companies, are indifferent to both human health and to the economy. Therefore, the idea arose to gather people, train, gather resources and start operating, “he said, adding that 13 Lithuanian companies have already contributed to the initiative, both financially and with their resources or services already available. .

“Ten people have already started to work, but we continue to select and train people. The companies that support the initiative take care of everything: both the selection of employees and the employment, the provision of a job ”, continued L. Baliukonis.

The staff is employed by the MP agency and works at the Hotel Panorama, which is also one of the project sponsors. The company director said that employees receive a minimum wage, but also receive gifts from partners, such as meals. It is estimated that a job costs about 950 euros per month.

The timeline project is promised to continue for at least one month.
