Doc Rivers, who was fired from the Los Angeles Clippers three days ago, already has a new job.
Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the 58-year-old specialist shook hands with the Philadelphia 76ers, with whom he signed a five-year contract.
It is added that the 76ers roster could be reinforced by Alvin Gentry, who was fired by the New Orleans Pelicans.
The general manager of the Philadelphia team, Elton Brand, already reached out to Rivers and his agent Lonnie Cooper on Monday.
The strategist soon flew to Philadelphia for a job interview with Brand and 76ers owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer. After both parties found the language, a quick cooperation agreement was reached.
Rivers had another two-year contract with the Clippers, so he could be entitled to solid compensation from the Los Angeles club. It’s true that there are often deals in the NBA that after finding a new schedule, the strategists no longer have money from the old team.
Under Rivers, the Clippers won 356 victories and suffered 208 losses. Overall, Rivers has achieved 943 accomplishments in his coaching career, making him the 11th-best finish among NBA professionals of all time.
Rivers was fired from the Los Angeles team after a failed Western Conference semifinal series in which the Clippers led 3-1 at a time, but the Denver Nuggets won three games in a row, eliminating the California team.
