The director of ArtVilnius, Diana Stomienė, was pleased that the fair, which has changed the date three times due to COVID-19, is still taking place: “This fair will be different from the previous ones, it will be a little smaller, but not worse in content, because during the pandemic artists created a lot of interesting news that works and we are in a hurry to show them first. “
According to her, all art fairs during the pandemic became a little more local: “But we wanted the fair to be real and not virtual. I think we will definitely revert to our usual format once the pandemic is over. There were many people who wanted to come, I can say with deep sadness that there would have been more galleries, but the constantly changing conditions closed this opportunity for us ”, said the director of ArtVilnius.
Although the pandemic has posed many challenges, this year’s fair remains international, with artists from 9 countries around the world, including France, Denmark, Poland, Italy, Hong Kong and others.
According to the artistic director of ArtVilnius, Sonata Baliuckaitė, this year we managed to maintain all the links of the fair: from exhibitions in galleries to the exhibition of sculptures and installations “Takas”, which has become a tradition in a night gallery or excursions with art critics.
As planned, this year ArtVilnius will pay close attention to photography. S.Baliuckaitė highlights the work of Vytenis Jankūnas, a Lithuanian photographer living in the US, although the author himself will not be able to come, everyone who wants to get acquainted with his works, reflecting the reality of the pandemic, will be able to do so. The artistic director also suggests not to miss the solo exhibition of the Latvian photographer Arnis Balsčius.

As usual, there will be performances at the fair: Monika Dirsytė, Augustas Serapinas, Evaldas Jansas and others will appear.
In the project space, it is worth highlighting the MOCAK exhibition of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Krakow: the museum, which is participating in the fair for the fifth time, will invite 5 artists, most of them women, to explore different models of femininity and motherhood and the concept traditional family. The premiere of Dr. GoraParasit’s performance – the living sculpture “Tristan and Izolda” presented by “Lewben Art Foundaton” in Lithuania should also attract attention in the project space.
Every year, the organizers of the fair were pleased not only with the number of participants and visitors, but also with the works sold. Can this year’s situation lead to worse statistics?
Diana Stomienė says that during crises and recessions it is always necessary to invest in art: “This is the rule no. 1. Then there is the best offer and good prices. We are not saying that those prices have dropped, but we need to capture the moments. There are many good pieces, a good selection. We hope that people who definitely buy will also buy this year, because the fair is preparing for that ”.

According to Jurgita Juospaitytė-Bitinienė, director of The Rooster Gallery, the eleventh ArtVilnius fair is unique because, due to the pandemic, the galleries, which were able to actively participate in the international art scene, devoted all their efforts to perform in Lithuania this year.
“Many good works did not go to foreign art fairs this year and they are here. Collectors also do not buy at foreign art fairs, so the forecasts are quite good. We hope that the statistics do not get worse, maybe even better, “said J. Juospaitytė-Bitininenė.

The winners of the fair, the best galleries and artists, will be announced on Friday. They will be judged by an international jury chaired by Julia Reklaitė, Rupert’s chief architect.
Taking care of the safety of participants and visitors, all requirements will be met: a mask must be worn at the fair, the temperature for visitors will be measured, tickets will be sold electronically. Depending on the situation of the pandemic, the architecture of the exhibition space was also modified, widening the corridors to avoid congestion.
The ArtVilnius art fair will be held at the Litexpo exhibition center from October 2-4.
