At the scheduled time, the Christmas tree lighting celebration was carried out only in a virtual way, transmitting a video prepared and pre-installed on the Internet, and the decorated Christmas tree in the Entertainment Square had already lit up almost at noon . However, at 5 p.m., dozens of Druskininkai residents gathered in the city center, mostly families with children who could not feel the festive atmosphere not only on the computer screen.

“We came because the little one really wanted to drop a letter in Santa’s mailbox. We keep our distance, I think it’s safe. After all, everything looks incomparably more beautiful live, without feeling it on screen. We went back to my parents for the weekend and went out to entertain ourselves, ”said Robertas from Vilnius, who came from Druskininkai and went to the Christmas tree with her daughter.

Christmas tunes played alongside a Christmas tree and a lamb with live sheep, and an impressive laser show caught the eye. The spectators did not gather together, they spread out across the spa park to admire more than fifty cleverly decorated Christmas trees. Police officers closely monitored that everyone was wearing masks, but only had to warn a few people.

“Every year we think about what is interesting to offer to resort guests, this year is no exception. Together with businesses and the community, we try to make Druskininkai shine more than ever. The pandemic dictates that this year we will celebrate Christmas not with a large group of friends, but with family, so Druskininkai welcomes the most beautiful holidays of the year as a true Christmas family town, where each family will find something to see, where to walk, where to enjoy wonderful vacation, ”said Druskininkai, mayor of Ričardas Malinauskas municipality.
