According to Liudas Dapkus, Head of OCT Communications Department, Coursera announces this campaign to help her recover from the negative effects of the coronavirus: she offered her services not only to Lithuanians, but also to Latvians and Estonians.
“This year Coursera has decided to help the Baltic countries. Lithuania was not exceptional. They appealed to the governments of the countries and offered to help job seekers not to discover benefits but to become something else. ( …) Since many people these days are losing their job or voluntarily quitting because they want to do something else, this is a fantastic opportunity. In fact, anyone who wants to learn how to change their profile and receive a certificate and live in Lithuania can do it, ”he says.

According to L. Dapkus, the system works like this: a Lithuanian, regardless of his social status, can write an email to [email protected] and after a while he receives an invitation to join the platform.
After accepting the invitation, you will find “Lithuanian Employment Service on Coursera” on the home page.

Then you can start registering for the courses. L. Dapkus states that one person can study many courses; it is important to complete them this year. After completing all the tasks, you can get a certificate. You don’t have to pay for it, as you do with courses, although the amount usually starts at almost $ 50.
What can you learn on Coursera? According to a representative of the OCT, the platform has more than 4,000 courses. You can study languages, philosophy, history, photography, journalism, information technology and other sciences. The courses are organized by the most famous universities and companies in the world: Google, IBM, Yale, Duke, Princeton, New York, London and other universities.
According to L. Dapkus, the most popular courses chosen by Lithuanians so far are programming basics, correct emailing, personal development courses, and tips on how to study.

L. Dapkus was unable to say how Lithuanian employers view skills acquired remotely. It is true that he pointed out that, for example, a utility network programmer, after completing an online course alone, could get a job.
According to the OCT representative, all costs for courses and certificates are covered by Coursera, which costs taxpayers nothing. According to L. Dapkus, the only costs incurred for the service are the human resources that distribute the invitations to the online platform.
In total, OCTs are said to be able to make 50,000 calls. More than 14,000 licenses have already been distributed. Registration for the invitation is open until September 30.
