One hand beats, the other caresses: the official entrance to League A is open and for newcomers of dubious reputation

The LFF executive committee, which met on Thursday, decided that ten teams should play in League A this year. Despite receiving nine licenses.

Jonava, who ranked third in the first league last year, did not meet the financial criteria. Delphi To the best of our knowledge, the deficiencies were not material: the club did not correctly maintain some accounting documents.

Although the licensing process was followed in principle, in the next step the LFF was no longer so strict.

Jonava could probably already be calm about returning to League A, where he played in 2016-2018, if not Dainava, who joined the game on the eve of the executive committee meeting.

The sixth team in League I last season submitted a request for consideration and its candidacy on an exceptional basis.

According to E. Stankevičius on Friday, Vilnius “Vytis” also tried to insert a triple, but in the second division only after making an exception, the LFF did not seriously consider the request of the competing club.

At the time, the general secretary of the LFF evaluated the chances of Jonava and Dainava to join the top ten in League A equally.

“I would say the odds are equal.” Jonava is more advanced in sports, has a stronger team, but has used some credit for confidence due to the history of a possible match, “said E. Stankevičius.

Last season, the betting market supervisors warned the LFF several times about suspicious matches by Jonavis in the 1st league.

The investigation resulted in a financial sanction for the club, with three players disqualified for up to eight games.

But not all cards are revealed by LFF – Delphi When asked which matches and which players caused the suspicion, E. Stankevičius called it confidential information.

Jonava does not admit her sins and is still trying to wash herself by filing an appeal, so the legal disputes are not over yet.

However, the decision to invite Dragan Džurdževičius, a Serbian coach who worked in Thailand’s second league, before this season has established a new venue.

“There are some indications about the new head coach, we take care that there are no consequences during the season. We received reports from colleagues that there were some ills at their club in Thailand. As a result, I sent a warning to Jonava that the club would take certain actions before the start of the season, ”said E. Stankevičius.

However, Jonava does not seem to react, both the coach and the players who have received penalties from the LFF remain at the club.

“It would be naive to expect the club itself to admit that it has problems within itself. No coach will do that, not Atlantas, Palanga or Kupiškis from Klaipėda. The defensive reaction is normal in such cases,” taught E. Stankevičius.

The clubs you mentioned were previously eliminated by the LFF due to the manipulation of match results.

The sanctions for Jonava are lighter because, according to one of the LFF leaders, the scale of suspicion is several times lower. In addition, the federation “would regret losing a team in a city that manages its infrastructure.”

“But if there is at least one, second, third time, the club will be eliminated from the tournament,” added E. Stankevičius.

Whichever team completes League A will have to start the championship “from the negative zone.” Licensing deficiencies risk losing 3 points and a financial penalty.

The LFF promises to decide on the latest newcomer to League A next week, after receiving additional documentation from the candidates.

In the next season, a four-wheel system will be played, the title of the winners will be defended by Vilnius “Žalgiris”. Also participating in the league will be A. Marijampolė “Sūduva”, “Kauno Žalgiris”, “Panevėžys”, Vilnius “Knights”, Gargždai “Banga”, Kaunas “Hegelmann Litauen”, Kėdainiai “Nevėžis” and Telšiai “Džiugas”.

The curtain on the season will rise on February 27. In the confrontation between “Žalgiris” and “Panevėžys” on the LFF Super Cup in Vilnius.

We remind you that last season, League A had the fewest participants in history: only six.
