With more and more COVID-19 vaccines arriving in Lithuania, Vilnius is preparing for the vaccination of other priority groups. In the next row on February 9, employees in the education sector, the later older ones will be vaccinated, starting with the oldest. First you will be vaccinated at 80 m. and older residents of Vilnius, later – 75-79 years, then 70-74 years. and the last of the oldest – 65-69 years. population.

Since almost 600 thousand people live in Vilnius. population and other priority groups are higher than in other cities, mass vaccination of older people is likely to begin in mid-February.

Seniors don’t need to worry about vaccination registration at outpatient clinics. After receiving precise information on when the vaccine for this priority group will arrive in Lithuania and Vilnius in particular, the polyclinics will inform older people individually by phone when, where and how they will be vaccinated. The date and time of the vaccination, the place and office, and the date of the second vaccination will be provided. This will be done by outpatient staff or volunteers. Vaccination is voluntary and both the vaccine and the vaccination service are free.

Older adults are expected to be vaccinated at the institutions where they are admitted, as family doctors know their patients best and can invite those with chronic illnesses first. The same cooperation is expected with private personal health care institutions. Patients from institutions who will not have the opportunity to vaccinate themselves will certainly not be forgotten: they will be assigned to one of the polyclinics that organize vaccination.

Many older people who have left their places of origin live in Vilnius with their children. Vaccination will not cause any problems for those who have enrolled in Vilnius polyclinics, even if their place of residence has been declared in another city. Older people who actually live but are not registered in Vilnius polyclinics will also have the opportunity to get vaccinated in the capital, if approved by the Ministry of Health (SAM).

Vilnius also hopes to receive a decision from the SAM in the near future that the elderly population will not be vaccinated with the Astra Zeneca vaccine, which, according to research, is ineffective for this group.

Please note that it is recommended not to vaccinate people who have been less than three months after diagnosis of COVID-19 or who have been tested for coronavirus antibodies in a serological test performed before vaccination.
