The law establishes that when a public servant turns 65 or is dismissed based on the provisions of a special law, he will be paid compensation in the amount of 2 months of his average salary on the day of his dismissal.
If a misconduct investigation has been initiated and not completed with respect to said employee, severance pay will be paid to a public official who has reached the age of 65 within 5 business days of the date of the decision of the person who takes office after misconduct investigation. Following a decision on the recognition of a person who has held the position of public official for an offense for which he should be punished with a service sanction: dismissal, no severance pay will be paid to a dismissed official who has reached 65 years of age.
On November 10, the former Seimas approved amendments to the Civil Service Law, which enshrines the right of civil servants and civil servants to receive severance pay.
The provisions of this Law shall apply to practicing public officials and servants who reach the age of 65 after the entry into force of this Law.
