According to her, the NVSC has not yet received official information from the Vilnius city municipality about the object, so she does not know what requirements should apply to its supervision.

“But without a doubt, it must be taken into account that epidemiologically it is still risky, because sand is poured, children play in it.” Obviously, we have seen animals walking in it, so far we have seen pets, but we were not at night, it is possible that homeless animals also come, “he said at a meeting of Seimas Freedom Fights and the State Historical Memory Commission on Tuesday.

“The main risk factors for communicable diseases would be sand and changing rooms, which should also be cleaned and disinfected every day. The National Center for Public Health does not have such data on tests carried out, disinfection and cleaning. This is really difficult to assess and they are very important, ”said a representative from NVSC.

Povilas Poderskis, director of the municipal administration, assured that the quality of the sand in Lukiškės Square is checked daily, and the municipal company Grinda, which has installed the beach, is also responsible for the capture of wild animals, so it is take care of it. According to him, the investigation is carried out in Grinda’s own laboratory. He promised to provide all the data to both the NVSC and the Seimas Commission.

“They are carried out daily, we will be able to share those results with you. I certainly am not a specialist to evaluate those research results. They say everything is fine. That is if everything is fine, everything is fine, “said P. Podersky.

Commissioners attempted to find out the legal status of the Lukiškės Square beach by asking if it was a beach or a playground. Mr. Poderski stated that it was a temporary facility together with the municipal company Grinda and promised to present the supporting documents to the commission.

“This is a temporary facility created during the event,” said Podersky.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health and the NVSC also confirmed that this is not an official beach or a playground.

Vidmantas Bezaras, director of the Department of Cultural Heritage (CRD), stated at the meeting that the department was not aware of plans to install the facility. According to him, the actions of the municipality in Lukiškės Square should be coordinated with the CRD in accordance with the applicable legal acts in cases where advertising is hung in the building or the equipment is repaired.

“In this regard, still under discussion, we wrote to the Vilnius municipality so that a representative could come to find out. We wrote on Friday. The debate on whether or not this is advertising is still intense, from what we see: there are Telia inscriptions and the English name for the public beach, “he said.

According to him, the municipality was asked to present documents on Friday and is expected to do so.

The Vilnius municipality’s decision to establish a temporary beach on Lukiškės Square received strong debate in society and among politicians. Critics say such a project is unsuitable for Lukiškės Square, and also criticize the fact that neither the public nor the city council or administration were consulted during project planning.

In response, the Seimas passed a law on Monday stating that Lukiškės Square in Vilnius is the main representative state square in Lithuania with the Vytis Monument. Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Šimašius says the beach will remain on the square until autumn, as planned.
