NVSC: So-called contact is not considered a coronavirus risk

Public health specialists reported that they learned that various classes of students were in isolation at a school in the Raseiniai district.

“The case of coronavirus infection was not recorded at this school and the NVSC did not provide any isolation recommendations to the school. One of the students for whom COVID-19 was not approved was found to have contact with an infected person. This means that all students and teachers are treated as a supposed contact and are not isolated because they have not been exposed to the coronavirus at all, ”the report says.

NVSC notes that isolation due to exposure can only be prescribed by specialists who have assessed individual risk.

“This means that if, for example, a child were isolated without NVSC instruction and his parents cared for him at home, there would be no reason to issue such a certificate of inability to work to those parents,” the report says.

The NVSC recalls that a person who has been in contact with an infected person for less than two meters for more than 15 minutes or who has had direct physical contact, such as shaking hands with a person with a coronavirus infection, is considered tall risk. Exposure is also considered high risk if the patient has received a kiss on the face.

Additionally, being in a confined space with a person with COVID-19 for more than 15 minutes is considered a high-risk contact. This means that if there has been an infected person in one of the meeting rooms, former colleagues will be treated as high risk people.

NVSC specialists remind people at high risk to isolate themselves, monitor their health and, in case of symptoms, contact the 1808 hotline for a disease test.

According to public health experts, a person who has been in contact with a distance of more than two meters for less than 15 minutes is considered to have had a low-risk exposure; This condition applies to both indoor and outdoor contact.

“If, for example, a person rides on a trolley with an infected person, wore protective gear, and got off the trolley after 10 minutes, such contact will be considered low risk,” explains the NVSC.

Low-risk people are not isolated, they, like all Lithuanians, must monitor their health and follow COVID-19 prevention measures.
