The Health Ministry said Thursday morning that 217 people are currently suffering from coronaviruses, 1,593 have recovered, 79 people have died from COVID-19 and 12 other people infected with coronaviruses have died from other causes. Adding up these figures, a total of 1,901 people in the country became infected with the coronavirus, but the ministry reports that there are more of those people in 1902.

The NVSC explains that, in fact, there are as many as the ministry indicates, but an infected person has not yet been identified anywhere.

“Due to certain circumstances, one case, which was identified in early June and regularly reported to the public, is currently not classified as ill or in recovery. This happened due to the fact that the first test conducted in the person was positive, but the test carried out the next day was negative, ”commented NVSC representative Justina Petravičienė on the situation at BNS.

“An epidemiological evaluation is currently underway to decide how this case should be evaluated and on which statistical line it should fall. We want to point out that we strive to inform the public quickly and accurately, but a pandemic is not an ordinary situation, cases are often complex and require a thorough assessment of the circumstances, “he added.

When asked if it could be the case that a person was not considered infected and the case would not be classified at all, the NVSC spokeswoman said “such a scenario is also possible if epidemiologists so decide.”
