Nursing Homes Are Calling For Help: Coronavirus May Leave Single Grandparents Unattended

34 people were infected with the Carite fight in Klaipėda and only two wards did not fall ill. Currently, there is only one general practice nurse who cares for grandparents with no days off. Volunteers help her, but that’s not enough. The priest in charge of the Caritas of Klaipėda asks for help.

“We need two general practice nurses who can join. Our two general practice nurses have positive coronavirus tests and it goes without saying that they will now definitely not be able to work for two weeks, ”said Mindaugas Šlaustas, director of the Carito Klaipėda regional care residence.

According to the priest, four more people would be needed to work as nursing assistants. In a nursing home, security measures are also rapidly declining.

“We would really be grateful if someone could contribute and donate the necessary equipment: coveralls, goggles and respirators. Also surface cleaning fluids.”

The number of patients is also increasing in Panevėžys. Here you can see the medical oxygen tank, which is brought to the Panevėžys Republican Hospital. Currently, only patients with covidio are treated at the Infectious Diseases Clinic; there are no more patients with other infections. The hospital currently occupies about half of the beds, for a total of one hundred.

The new oxygen tank should help treat covid patients.

“Because we have 48 patients using oxygen, and before that our system was focused on balloon packages, we have to carry a new shipment of packages every day, but that’s very little. Therefore, that capacity is being built to last a week, ”said Egidijus Preidis, director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic.

A patient with covid consumes up to 10 liters of oxygen per minute. Thus, all patients treated at the clinic consume 5 containers with oxygen cylinders per day. Therefore, the company supplying oxygen to Panevėžys Hospital has to transport new cylinders from Jonava every day, and you already have a threat to the oxygen supply.

“Suppliers are not able to transport six oxygen packages per day, so we decided to build a tank so large that it will guarantee the need for uninterrupted oxygen supply to the hospital,” said Mindaugas Čipinys, Deputy Director of Management and Economics at Panevėžys Republican Hospital.

So replenishing the oxygen tank will be once or twice a week. When there are no covid patients left, the tank will be used for other patients who need oxygen. For example, those with tuberculosis.

So far, 1,169 new coronavirus cases confirmed last day (Tuesday – Delfi) have not decreased. 17 people died. According to Acting Minister of Health Aurelijus Veryga, doctors are currently under consideration as being obliged to give instructions to hospitals to treat patients.

“It is necessary because the departments that are traditionally destined for patients with COVID-19 are no longer enough. Also not only for the treatment of these patients but also for patients with other infectious diseases. Unfortunately, but we have to reorganize both the hospitals and the departments, say, and re-profile, to use cowardly patients. Naturally, the organizing hospitals have a particular question about how to implement this use ”, commented the minister.

The Labor Code stipulates that changes in working conditions are only possible with the written consent of the employee. Veryga says that he has already contacted the labor inspectorate about it.
