The New York Times, for its part, reports that Navaln has told German prosecutors that he intends to return to Russia as soon as possible.
“He has no plans to emigrate to Germany. He wants to return to Russia and continue his activities,” a source from the German security services told the newspaper.
According to the source, A. Navaln understands what happened to him, what he did before the poisoning and where he is now. The activist, among others, has previously spoken out against German investigators’ cooperation with Russian services, which are clearly not trusted.
Navaln was poisoned on the morning of August 20 and felt ill on a plane flying from Tomsk to Moscow. The ocean liner hastily landed in Omsk, from where the hospital patient was soon transferred to a clinic in Berlin.

He was awakened from a coma on September 7 and doctors discovered that he had been poisoned with Soviet-made combat equipment from the Novičiok group.
Material from the same group, according to the British government, was poisoned in 2018 in the English town of Salisbury by former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter.
Navaln’s colleagues believe that he was poisoned in Tomsk and that the use of this banned chemical weapon shows that only the Russian state can be responsible for the poisoning.
The Kremlin is taking any responsibility and generally questioning Novičiok’s reports, but information published by Germany on the substance has also been confirmed by laboratories in Sweden and France.
