A.Čikotas was born in 1951. June 2 Veiveriai, Prienai district. 1974 Graduated from the Institute of Physical Education. He started rowing while studying. In his native Veiveri, he rode his bike, completed the first division and became the district champion. But he won the most beautiful victories rowing.
A. Chikotas was particularly distinguished by his resistance. During the World Championships and the Olympic Games, Antanas rowed his favorite eight-seater boat in the USSR team, but he always felt that it could be planted at any time.
“He prophesied medals to our team during the Montreal Olympics. There were very strong rowers sitting on the boat, overtaking everyone who specialized in those kinds of boats in doubles competition. However, the national team coach Anatoly Belenkov coached us and bent the stick.
After that, he wanted to prove we were guilty, not him. When we fought in the second final and got seventh place, we achieved an absolutely third result.
But what about that? It was shortly after the Olympics in preparation for the 1977 World Cup. My sports career is over, ”said A. Čikotas.
At that time, the Kaunas resident had not yet given up on the great sport. Represented Lithuania, rowing a double without a helmsman. He won a silver medal during the USSR Championship. When he finished active sport, he worked as a coach for five years, preparing Lithuanian champions and laureates.
He was invited to coach the national team, after which he performed administrative duties. 1980-1985 taught in the CCI Rowing Department. 1985-1996 was the Kaunas rowing chief. coach, 1998-2004. – Head of the Lithuanian rowing team coach, he worked as technical director of the Lithuanian Rowing Federation.
