At a press conference on Saturday, Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys presented three solutions that should help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
According to the minister, the decision was made to expand the circle of doctors who can treat patients with Covid-19.
“It just came to our notice then. First, realizing the physician shortage, we legitimize the possibility of treating Covid-19 patients with a broader range of physicians. Additionally, a larger circle of specialists may be assistants. In nursing, we have included specialists such as dietitians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, paramedics, ”said A. Dulkys at the press conference.
A decision has also been made to reduce the duration of self-isolation for medical personnel when it is safe to do so.
“From now on, healthcare personnel will be able to shorten the isolation period by providing additional tests. The limits are being extended to evaluate each case individually and to safely shorten this period,” says A. Dulkys.
The minister also announced that to save beds in the wards from Covid-19, a decision was made to terminate treatment in rehabilitation hospitals for stable patients.
“The third solution is extra beds in rehabilitation hospitals. We have several cases where people no longer need oxygen therapy, but attention to human health and safety has not yet been provided. This solution will allow people in stable conditions complete Covid-19 treatment in rehabilitation hospitals. Up to 900 beds will be provided for the treatment of these patients, “said A. Dulkys at the press conference.

The Chancellor of the Ministry of Health, Jurgita Grebenkovienė, says that the vaccines have already reached the Santara clinics, and that the vaccines will reach other cities: Klaipėda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys and Kaunas.
The second shipment is expected to arrive in Lithuania in 29 days, we are expected to receive a slightly larger shipment than we received this time, but the exact number will be known only before the arrival of the vaccine. “Residents and staff of nursing homes will then be vaccinated, followed by chronic diseases and people over 65, and finally by mass vaccination of the public,” the chancellor said.
