He bowed to tradition.

At noon on July 6, Kaunas residents were greeted by the traditional Vytis Cross Order flag raising ceremony in the garden of the Vytautas the Great War Museum. While playing with the Air Force Orchestra, flowers were placed near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Freedom Monument. Cannon fire was also announced on State Day. Immediately after the ceremony, the central part of the city was filled with a concert of bell music by the chime of the performer Julius Vilnonis.

The weather slightly changed the highlights of the planned mid-day vacation. Apparently, the cloudy sky scared the residents of Kaunas a bit.

“Although the sky threatens to rain, my husband and I still had to come here. In addition to the traditional Order of the Cross of Vytis ceremony for raising flags, it is as if the holiday did not start,” said Laima of Kaunas, who came to the garden of the Military Museum.

It was planned that a huge tricolor about the size of three basketball courts would be displayed at the Unity Square “SBA group” at that time, but it was not possible to do so during lunch, because it was dangerous to spread the flag due to gusts of wind. However, a large tricolor fluttered at night when Kaunas residents, along with everyone else, sang the Lithuanian anthem in the square. A huge flag of three basketball courts covered almost the entire highest part of the BLC 2 building.

Night accent

On the occasion of State Day, Kaunas residents were able to visit the city’s museum departments for free, meet with communities on the mounds, and at night, citizens joined in singing a hymn. After him, those gathered in the role of the castle were able to enjoy the “Opera Fejerija” festival to commemorate the centenary of Lithuanian opera.

Singing the “National Anthem” on July 6 has already become a beautiful Lithuanian tradition, lasting eleven years, so this year the Lithuanian anthem once again brought the nation together. In Kaunas, the hymn is sung in various places: near Kaunas Castle, in Unity Square, on Napoleon Hill and the mounds.

The portal kauno.diena.lt announced that on the occasion of State Day, the Kaunas group “16 Hz” donated an arrangement of hymns to Lithuania, so that at 9 pm it was possible to sing a traditional hymn and a modern sound.

“Every holiday that Lithuania promotes means a lot to us. It’s so much fun that we were able to come here with the family and instill in the younger generation a love for Lithuania so they don’t want to escape anywhere, “said Salvinija, who met the Kaunas family and joined the entire family.

It is true that, although the emergency situation in the country has not yet arisen, the number of people at the events is still limited. Therefore, not everyone could hear the harrowing voices of opera soloists sitting in the amphitheater at the foot of Kaunas Castle. Other Kaunas residents could watch the event from the entrances to the Church of Saint George the Martyr or hear the distant place of the castle. Before the event, the temperature of the following was measured, people could disinfect their hands and were also asked to wear face masks. However, the audience assured that the events during the quarantine were greatly missed, and are glad to be among those lucky enough to hear the voices of world-class opera soloists.

We are patriots of our city and country, therefore I have no doubt that the anthem sung by Kaunas residents can be heard throughout Lithuania.

“We really miss going to such events, we sat at home for several months.” I think it is symbolic that the first event of our family in a long time is exactly this, when the “National Anthem” is sung. So it seems that everyone unites and overcomes all adversities together, “Petras shared his opinion.

He honored the heroes.

As soon as the hymn was sung, the most prominent people in the city received words of thanks. They are honored for making the city famous for its good works and creative gifts. Those who helped combat the coronavirus pandemic also received the attention and gratitude of the city authorities.

“This is an extraordinary weekend, when our city and all of Lithuania celebrate State Day. On July 6, we continue the beautiful tradition of awarding badges of honor to Kauna residents deserving of Santaka, and one of them received the title of Honorary Citizen of Kaunas. An integral part of these celebrations is the “National Anthem” sung together. We are patriots of our city and country, therefore, I have no doubt that the anthem sung by Kaunas residents can be listen throughout Lithuania, ”said the mayor of Kaunas, Visvaldas Matijošaitis, before the event.
