Neighbors who do not smoke on balconies can already be reported: police warned how to do it

The Lithuanian police recalled what to do if you suffer from neighbors who smoke on balconies and pointed out that residents must register the offense themselves and pass the registered data to the municipality or via epolicija.lt, and not call the emergency services tel. 112.

The officials shared information on how the whole process should be done correctly.

We remind you that in this case, no smoking signs will have to be installed on the balconies next to or inside the apartment building. This will have to be done by the building administrator, the community or the municipality. If the neighbors do not object, smokers should make sure that the smoke does not enter the premises of other residents of the house.

In the event of a violation, the owner of the smoking room must provide the officials with the details of the smoker (name and residence address) and will be fined if they refuse to do so. A person who smokes on the balcony of an unauthorized apartment is threatened with a warning or a fine of 20 to 50 euros, and in the case of repeated violation, 50 to 90 euros. Property owners who do not provide details of a smoker face a fine of € 30-60 and, for repeated violations, € 60-120.

The Seimas adopted amendments to the law on the first day of October. They were started by former Minister of Health Aurelijus Veryga and 13 other members of the Seimas. Among other things, the amendments prohibit smoking during sports competitions or other outdoor events, covered public transport stops, playgrounds, and outdoor catering areas. This prohibition will not apply to smoking areas.

Since 2007, smoking has been prohibited in catering establishments, bars, clubs, discos and all other people’s service establishments in Lithuania.
