“Experience, political will and ability to make the necessary changes in the managed sector within a certain period of time, during the mandate”, named the criterion G. Nausėda.

The head of state together explained what he meant when he spoke of the welfare state.

“There are several elements. Perhaps the most important are the health, education and general welfare of our country. (…) Unfortunately, it has happened that during the last decade, our reforms in these very important sectors have come to a significant (and at some point complete) end. It is impossible to move forward if we keep landing on the ground. Other states are making rapid progress. Lithuania cannot be left behind in this process, “said G. Nausėda.

The head of state congratulated the winners of the elections during the meeting and wished the future prime minister success.

“I congratulated the National Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats for their victory in the elections, of which they have no doubts. When this party presented its candidate for Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, I think it is completely logical to wish Ingrida Šimonyte success in the post of Prime Minister. Until then, however, all the necessary work must be done regarding the formation of the coalition and the division of ministerial portfolios, “said G. Nausėda after meetings with the parties on Monday.

The head of the country promised to take an active part in the formation of the government. He mentioned that during the meetings the names of potential ministerial candidates were also mentioned.

“I propose to take an active part in the formation of the Government, but not improvising and taking ministers out of my pocket, but listening to the expectations of the party, the negotiations of the parties when ministerial portfolios are shared. We already talked about some key principles today. Yes, I will not hide, there was talk of another surname, but today it would be frivolous to treat these surnames as carved in stone. There really has to be a general agreement on which party belongs to which ministry, who will assume the positions of responsibility in the Seimas, specifically who will hold the position of president of the Seimas. We still have a long way to go before we can fully take on surnames, ”said G. Nausėda.

Ask that responsibility be maintained until the last day

At the press conference, G. Nausėda said that he had reminded the LVŽS representatives: the party leader and the prime minister that the responsibility for managing the situation must be maintained until the last minute.

“Today we are seeing really alarming numbers of coronavirus, there is work that we must do soon. Therefore, when meeting with the representatives of LVŽS, I stressed that the responsibility must be maintained until the last business day, the minute of work ”, – said the President.

According to the president, not everything possible has been done in Lithuania to improve the situation. He mentioned the use of disinfectants, a common culture and responsibility as problem areas.

“The government must do its job, but it is your responsibility to protect yourself and those closest to you, using all means of protection,” G. Nausėda told the people.

The issue of coronavirus will be debated at this week’s European Council.

Human rights issues will be addressed during the legislative debate

The head of state urged parliamentarians to actively participate in the discussion of issues of homosexual association and decriminalization of the possession of low-volume drugs.

“This is his promise to the voters,” said G. Nausėda.

He himself promises to express his opinion during the deliberations of the laws.

The head of state said he would solve these problems on the basis of “human principles of the 21st century.”

“Sometimes when we simplify or schematize life, we like to put politicians on certain shelves and say that this is from the 19th century and this is from the 20th century. I am a 21-year-old and (according to ELTA) I will solve this problem according to the 21-year-old principles, ”said G. Nausėda.

The Freedom Party is talking about these proposals in its electoral program.

I met with the party leaders

On Monday, President G. Nausėda met with the leaders of the political parties to discuss the formation of a new government after the Seimas elections.

The opposition conservatives won the parliamentary elections. Talks about a ruling center-right coalition with the Liberal Movement and the Freedom Party began Monday night.

According to preliminary data, the National Christian Democratic Union of Lithuania has won 50 seats and, together with the coalition partners, will have a majority in the Seimas.

The presidents of the three parties issued a joint statement on Monday night that they are determined to form a government led by Ingrida Šimonytė.

According to the Constitution, the Prime Minister is appointed by the President with the approval of the Seimas and the Head of State also approves the composition of the Government.
