The Constitution provides that the Prime Minister, no later than 15 days after his appointment, shall present to the Seimas the Government formed by him and approved by the President and submit his program for consideration.

The government program promises to be presented to the Seimas on Tuesday. Members of the newly formed Government must participate in the Seimas session in which the Government program is presented.

In explaining the Government’s program, the Prime Minister speaks in a session of the Seimas for up to 40 minutes. A total of an hour and a half is allocated to answer questions during the presentation of the government program. Questions can be addressed to the Prime Minister or to any of the Ministers.

When the Prime Minister and ministers finish answering questions from the Seimas members, the Seimas must make a decision on the Government’s program.

The new government is authorized to act when the Seimas, by a majority of the members of the Seimas present at the session, approves its program. If the Seimas does not approve the newly formed government’s program twice in a row, the government must resign.

I. Šimonytė was appointed on November 25. She promises to present the government program to the Seimas on Tuesday.
