Nausėda – about the new quarantine measures: they are needed now

The government decided on Sunday to toughen the quarantine in Lithuania from Wednesday: most stores will be closed, except for grocery stores and pharmacies, and people will leave their homes without good reason.

Residents of a house will be allowed to walk in open areas within the municipality without meeting other people.

“As COVID-19 infection rates continue to rise in the country, the new government is intensifying quarantine conditions. The measures proposed by the Council of Health Experts that I convened a week ago will be implemented. It is regrettable that we have wasted a great deal of time considering whether to take the hardest or the most compromising path, and disease statistics continue to break new records.

We are all interested in reducing the number of infections and the burden on the health system as soon as possible. Human lives depend on it. For this reason, today, before the Government meeting, we discussed with the Prime Minister the new measures proposed by the experts to strengthen the quarantine, ”said G. Nausėda on his Facebook account.

According to the president, new measures were necessary.

“It just came to our attention then. But its validity period should depend on the epidemiological situation. The government will have to review the quarantine measures adopted today as we work together to reduce the spread of the virus.

It is really disappointing that the weeks of the strictest quarantine coincide with St. During the Christmas and New Years period. They may last until the end of January. However, this is a unique opportunity to protect each other.

I invite you to know the big parties this time without the usual shopping marathon. We will celebrate the holidays in a modest and cozy way, only in the closest circle of our family. In this way, we can all ease the burden on doctors. We can give a break to the doctors, residents and nurses fighting COVID-19, ”writes G. Nausėda.
