The last matches of 2020 will be played in one week in the Betsafe-LKL season. In almost four months, league teams have played from nine to twelve games, so it can be said that almost a third of the regular season has passed.
During this period, there was no shortage of impressive individual performances and sections of good play, and several league basketball players demonstrate sporting finest form in their careers.
LKL.lt presents three Betsafe-LKL Voices to league fans – Vaidas Čeponis, Karolis Tiškevičius and Kunigėlio Linen – five selected symbols. They feature basketball players and coaches from different championship teams, leaving the best impression on the commentators.
When choosing the symbolic teams, they did not choose players and strategists who no longer compete in the championship. Among those people, it is worth distinguishing former Nevėžis-Optibet strategist Marius Kiltinavičius of Kėdainiai and the most useful two-month basketball players who left their teams: Demetrius Jackson, who became the MVP of September, and Regimantas Miniotas, which dominated in October.

Team V.Čeponis:
Vaidas Kariniauskas. He played wonderfully at Nevėžys-Optibet. I have no doubt that it will also be very useful for the Juventus club. He is a solid, creative and very good team attack organizer. In addition, it is able to defend itself reliably.
Marius Grigonis. This season he has improved even more and is the best basketball player in Lithuania. While not very sudden and fast, opponents’ defenses can also break down with advances. Marius also earned the status of a trusted sniper.
Arnas Butkevičius. Before the injury, he was one of the main pillars of the Morning. He is an extremely athletic defense specialist. As for the attack, his horse is a counterattack.
Gytis Masiulis. The start of the season itself was not easy, but lately it has been gaining momentum. Gytis is a modern heavy forward because 3s can effectively extend an attack.
Edgar Želionis. An ideal purchase for the Pasvalys club. He can play effectively as a “center” and as a heavy forward. Edgar will definitely benefit the team much more than his predecessor Zigmar Raimo.
Sir. coach Martin Schiller. It has improved, it has become more flexible compared to the beginning of the season. Every time he takes over more things in European basketball. For example, in the beginning I almost always used Ice’s defense, but now it’s more diverse. There is both a step out and an exchange of defenses between the five players. A positional attack when a counterattack fails has been made longer. This helps to play the ball better, up to the so-called royal toss.
Team K. Tiškevičius:
Kristupas Žemaitis. One of the greatest discoveries of the season played at the position, one of the most advanced and physically strengthened defenders. He makes his teammates better, this is clear from looking at Mato Juciko’s performance, which is several times better than last season. Alytus’s hit game “Dzūkija” directly correlates with K. Žemaitis’s game.
Mr. Grigonis. Without competition, the best offensive defender from one of the strongest teams in the world and all that, there is no discussion here.
Tomas Lekūnas. He’s back to where he played the season of his career a couple of years ago, and this season he claims to play even more impressive. He has the full confidence of Gediminas Petrauskas, he enjoys it and is tremendously good not only in attack but also in defense.
Maurice’as Ndouras. The best basketball player in Vilnius “Ryto”. He gives the team even more than his excellent stats show, especially on defense. The most mobile Vilnius man in the penalty area.
Mindaugas Kupšas. I do not like those centers, but he is convinced of their useful game: in a very short time he manages to add many utility points and, after the departure of Julius Jucik, his numbers will only improve, although they are already good. In this case, Betsafe-LKL is one of the best center forwards.
Sir. coach Nenad Chanak. Lietkabelis is building a team at the same level as last year from a much weaker one, and that convinces me.
L. Kunigėlis team:
V. Kariniauskas. After entering his CV as an “Olympic participant” in 2016, he began his trips to clubs in Romania, Bosnia and Greece’s League II. This season, the 27-year-old defender is turning a sheet.
Vaidas ends the 2020 Betsafe-LKL season by ranking among the top five players in the league in five categories (points scored, assists, assists, provoked fouls and interceptions).
Yes, the defender raised most of that capital in Kėdainiai. Maintaining the same level at Juventus will probably be his biggest challenge in the coming years.
Elvaras Fridrikssonas. Yes, Šiauliai. Yes, get a playing time of up to 33 minutes per game. But: He leads the league in terms of productive passes (7.2). It is the first in terms of efficiency index (20.6) and caused fouls (5.5). Second in points (16.3). And yet, even in terms of rebounds (3.9), this defender is well above the league average (2.8). It’s not as bad as a 182cm tall “little one.”
Julius Kazakauskas. In his second season at Kėdainiai, the 196 cm tall forward became the Lithuanian version of Charles Barkley, racking up almost double-doubles per game: 10.3 points and 9 rebounds. The latter is the best bet on Betsafe-LKL overall, with just two players ahead of Julius in terms of performance scores.
M. Ndouras. Although this Senegalese managed to play only three games in the Lithuanian championship, according to his current numbers, Ndouras would lead the league in terms of points won (18), two-point accuracy (73.1%) and utility points (20.7) . However, I suppose even more than the numbers, Donald Kairis likes the energy that appears in the field of his forward and the way he tries to cover the leaky defense (at least so far) of the team.
Joffrey Lauvergne. As it would not be fair to leave out the dominant Žalgiris from Betsafe-LKL, Mr Lauvergne is probably the most suitable candidate. Although increasingly overshadowed by Euroleague top shooter Augustine Rubit, the Frenchman remains one of the “fifth” strongest numbers in the national championships. He leads the team in utility and rebounding scores, just shy of the leaders in terms of points earned and two-point accuracy.
Sir. coach N.Čanakas. Second place in the tournament table, after the victory against “Žalgiris” and “Rytas”. Enough.
