Kremlin critic Alexei Navaln returned to Moscow from Germany on Sunday night. He was taken away by police at the airport, a Kremlin spokesman said at the time, unaware of the arrest.

Navaln “made the conscious decision to return to Russia because he considered it his personal and political home,” Massas said, adding that it was “completely incomprehensible” that the Russian authorities detained him as soon as he returned.
