Europe is the continent most affected by the pandemic, with at least 2,001,995 cases of COVID-19 coronavirus infection and 173,133 deaths.
A total of 5,244,616 cases of COVID-19 were identified worldwide and 339,011 cases were killed.
Among European countries, the highest number of infections was found in Russia (335,882, as well as 3,388 deaths. Around 10,000 recently registered cases of COVID-19 have been reported in most countries since early May.
Great Britain (257,154 infections and 36,675 deaths), Spain (234,824 cases and 28,628 deaths), Italy (229,327 cases and 32,735 deaths) and France (182,219 cases and 28,289 deaths) were also severely affected.
These statistics, based on AFP data from national authorities and information published by the World Health Organization (WHO), probably represent only a fraction of the actual number of cases of coronavirus infection, since in many countries tests are performed only on people with severe symptoms.
