For the first time in Lithuania, Covid-19 has been prescribed for a newborn. A woman with an asymptomatic form gave birth to a sick girl in Šiauliai.
At the Šiauliai Hospital Women’s and Children’s Clinic, coronavirus tests are performed on all mothers. If the answer is yes, the newborn is also tested. There have already been pregnant women with COVID-19 in the hospital, but not a newborn to this day. Šiauliai became the first city in Lithuania when COVID-19 was introduced for a newborn girl.
“The first day we were so restless because my nose was swollen, so much the amount of discharge increased, the ability to look at it for a couple of days increased. The respiratory function tests were carried out more frequently, the condition was evaluated every 8 hours in general, ”says Vaida Aleksandravičienė, coordinator of the Newborn Department.
The girl’s mother had an asymptomatic form of COVID-19. The hospital has isolation rooms and special rooms for nursing. There were no complications, so the mother and daughter were quickly released.
“The condition was already stable on the third day, we noticed another day and after four days they left home with their mother,” says V. Aleksandravičienė.
In Lithuania, a decline in new COVID-19 cases is felt after the weekend. During the day yesterday, the laboratories detected 966 infections. That’s almost 200 less than yesterday and half a thousand less than Friday.
“It just came to our attention then. About a thousand and more than a thousand. Let us bear in mind that we are also caught in the phenomenon of the weekend, when there is less research, less is taken, less is done,” says the acting minister of Cheers, Aurelijus Veryga.
“That optimism that has been repeated several times, the flattening of the curve, let’s wait until the end of this week, we will see that impact on the Feast of All Saints. At present, almost 1,400 patients are hospitalized in Lithuania due to COVID-19. The worst situation in the Vilnius region, here the doctors claim the fact, there are not enough free beds, ”said Acting Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis.
In the Santara clinics, it is getting earlier and earlier, the search for free beds is becoming an impossible mission.
“Now there are 6 beds available. On average, to be calm, we need to have at least 25 beds per day, staffed so that we can be calm, ”says Aušra Bilotienė-Motiejūnienė, Managing Director of Santara Clinics.
Not only the Santara Clinic, but also the support hospitals in Vilnius, Antakalnis, Alytus and Ukmergė, who can help. The Santara clinics are convinced that the support hospital model is not enough for Lithuania.
“They all say the same thing, we can give beds, we can give units, but we don’t have people, we don’t have staff, it takes time to assemble. From where? Of polyclinics. A legal mechanism is needed. There are many issues that need to be addressed, ”says A. Bilotienė-Motiejūnienė.
According to Santarai Clinics, it is necessary to send COVID-19 patients to hospitals in other less congested regions, such as Panevėžys, or to prepare projects such as the Litexpo Exhibition Center Hospital not only for Vilnius, but for the whole of Lithuania. This would make it possible to more quickly find the doctors who currently have the greatest need to work with COVID-19 patients.
Not only are places lacking in hospitals, but also facilities for research. After the Health Ministry showed the public a new shipment of tubes for COVID-19 tests on Friday and announced that there is currently no shortage of test equipment, Raseiniai Mayor Andrius Bautronis is speaking differently today. .
There is a lack of facilities, making investigations impossible, and the local hospital will have to limit scheduled services because people cannot get there without test results.
“It will be necessary to stop or reduce the working hours of the mobile point. Since we will not have large volumes of research, stop and plan outpatient services, this is it. There is a lack of reagents in the laboratories, ”says the mayor of Raseiniai, Andrius Bautronis.
In Lithuania, 14 people died yesterday from coronavirus cases. Such a high number was recorded for the second time in Lithuania in November.
