“The 27 million settlement is the largest pretrial settlement in a wrongful death civil rights case in US history,” the attorneys said in a statement.
Derek Chauvin, a 44-year-old former Minneapolis police officer, is currently on trial for murder and manslaughter in connection with an incident on May 25, 2020, that resulted in Floyd’s death.
The actions of this policeman were filmed around former people and sparked massive protests against racial injustice around the world.
The video shows Mr. Chauvin shaking his neck on the ground for almost nine minutes with Mr. Floyd lying on the ground and handcuffed.
Three other police officers, Tou Thao, Thomas Lane and Alexander Kueng, are also charged with contributing to Floyd’s death.
