The minister said the decision was made because in mid-February he unsatisfactorily evaluated the work of R. Petraitis last year.
“The owner, as well as the legislation, took advantage of the opportunity to run before the corresponding commission. “I received your conclusions last night, they confirm my vision and my assessment, for which reason I will sign today that Robert Petraitis will be removed from office as of March 10, inclusive,” the minister announced at a press conference on Wednesday.
According to him, the temporary institution will be headed by Giedrė Aleksienė, Head of the Center’s Infectious Disease Management Division.
R. Petraitis previously characterized A. Dulkis’s decision to remove him as a political decision, because he did not hear any specific allegations about his work during the annual interview.
By order of the Minister, an official NVSC inspection was also carried out earlier this year for a possible breach of duty following the discovery of unaccounted deaths related to the coronavirus.
After him, R. Petraitis was reprimanded for the poorly coordinated and organized work of the NVSC.
The order of A. Dulkis on misconduct establishes that due to the inaction of the owner of the NVSC “the necessary data are not properly processed, systematized and delivered to other institutions, which gives grounds to affirm that there is a real threat to health of all residents of the country “.
It also states that “the NVSC did not ensure compliance with the established obligations related to the management of information on communicable diseases, the investigation of outbreaks and the provision of information to other Lithuanian and European institutions.”
R. Petraitis disagreed with these findings and promised to appeal them to the court.
Earlier, Minister R. Petraitis asked him to resign, but he did not agree.
NVSC management was criticized earlier this year for more than 1,000 unreported coronavirus-related deaths. R. Petraitis later stated that the situation is not due to the institution’s fault, but to the lack of timely information provided by the hospitals.
NVSC R. Petraitis has been directing since 2017, before that year he was the Deputy Director of this institution, previously he had worked at the Vilnius Public Health Center.
