R. Sinkevičius collected about 35 percent in the Jonava district. votes. He was defeated by the Social Democrat Eugenijus Sabutis.

R. Sinkevičius is currently the vice president of the Social Workers Party and the eldest of the faction in the Seimas. He has been in Parliament, elected in the same Jonava single-member constituency, for a fourth term, since 2000, with the exception of the 2004-2008 term. At that time, without joining Seimas, he was serving as Development Director of the Achema Group company.
The parliamentarian has served on the Parliamentary Economic Committee during all periods.
Since December 2017, he has been the head of the Economic Committee, as the then peasant head Virginijus Sinkevičius was appointed Minister of the Economy, and following his assumption of the post of European Commissioner, R. Sinkevičius became Minister of Economy and Innovation in summer 2020.
