A plane from Norway landed at Kaunas airport and flew full. The plane’s passengers, who were interviewed by LNK journalists, said they had returned to Lithuania on vacation to stay with their family.

The passengers are hugging and kissing their relatives, they will spread from the airport to all of Lithuania.

Passenger carriers say the workload has doubled.

“It just came to our knowledge then. And there are people from Kaunas, Vilnius airports, Riga airport. They are returning home en masse with their relatives,” said Saulius Didžiulis, the driver of the passenger transport company.

The number of returnees at Lithuanian airports is increasing, but not as much as it would be without a pandemic.

“At the beginning of December, employment at airports reached around 30 percent, and according to this week’s data, aircraft employment has increased slightly and reaches around 40-50 percent, comparing individual addresses,” he told LNK News Aurimas Stikliūnas, head of the department of aviation services at Lithuanian airports.

The number of flight directions has also increased significantly.

“Spain, Germany, Holland, Sweden, Denmark are the countries where our passengers can still fly. The airlines plan to operate a total of 47 destinations. 32 of them are from Vilnius airport, 12 from Kaunas and 3 from Palanga airport”, – said A. Stikliūnas.

The situation is similar with the ferries, additional trips are planned, because there is no place for everyone.

“The pandemic has reduced the number of seats sold, and we will even make two additional trips from Sweden to Lithuania to serve everyone,” said Vaidas Klumbys, DFDS communications director for the Baltic countries.

Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė asks the emigrants not to return to Lithuania.

“I would suggest thinking about whether it is really necessary to return to Lithuania for the holidays, to increase the risk for you, your relatives and the health system, which is already overloaded,” the politician told reporters at Seimas.

Those who return to Lithuania must follow the same rules as those who live here. It is forbidden to travel between municipalities, it is mandatory to drive to the place where you will live during your visit.

“This means that they return to that place and should not go to another place, meet, visit friends or invite them to visit them,” recalled Interior Minister Agnė Bilotaitė.

But who should control the movement of migrants is unknown. How to prove that you live in one city or another if there is no place to register and there is no request.

The interior minister says the officer is not built alongside everyone, so all that’s left here is to trust his conscience.

The figures speak for themselves: more than 1,5 thousand people come to Lithuania every day. Lithuanian.
