Mercedes scored a double victory in the race, which was marked by many accidents: six-time world champion Lewis Hamilton won the race and his teammate Valtteri Bottas finished second.

With four stages remaining to the end of the championship, Mercedes has secured its seventh consecutive constructors’ cup. This is a new F1 record.

At the start of the race, Hamilton lagged behind not only Bott, who started on pole position, but also Max Max Verstappen, but a successful stop in the technical service area allowed the British to be ahead.

Verstappen crashed his car near the end of the race, and Williams driver George Russell soon followed suit, finishing the race in a safety car.

Kevin Magnussen, Estaban Ocon and Pierre Gasly didn’t finish either. Racing Point representative Lance Stroll also did not escape the incident, which braked and broke the mechanic too late during the stop.

The mechanic was not seriously injured.

Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo took the third podium at Imola. Alpha Tauri’s Danila Kviatas was fourth and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was fifth. His teammate Sebastian Vettel remained 12th.

The 14th stage of the F1 Championship is the Turkish GP. The Istanbul race will take place on November 15.
