He stressed that family outbreaks continue to be recorded, with two major outbreaks involving performers: the Kaunas Philharmonic, the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theater (LNOBT), as well as a sick and vocal teacher.
“So the situation can be considered very serious, because the number of people who came into contact exceeded 100. (…) We are receiving more and more information. We are in constant contact with the LNOBT staff, we ask everyone with information about the cases to contact NVSC, ”he said.
Asked about local quarantines, which were also mentioned by the Minister of Health, whether an institution like the LNOBT could be isolated, as it might seem, G. Megelinskienė confirmed that the institution’s activities are currently suspended.
“On Friday, an investigation was ordered of all the employees of the institution, people who were in the building, and it is planned to suspend the activities of the institution until a separate instruction from the NVSC. This was done in order to understand the circumstances of the infection and to adequately isolate exposed persons. “… now a survey of all employees is being organized and now we are starting to receive the results of the surveys, which we will present,” he said.
Outbreaks in Vilnius and Kaunas may be related
According to G. Megelinskienė, the outbreaks in art groups in Kaunas and Vilnius are possibly related, but it is not possible to establish additional data and specific conclusions.
“So far the hypothesis has not been fully formulated, but epidemiologists are actively working to at least find the thread. (…) We get a lot of data and try to make interfaces. It should be noted that there have been no outbreaks in this professional group before, which alone raises the suspicion that many cases suddenly occur in a professional group and spread at a similar time in both Vilnius and Kaunas, ”said the specialist. of the NVSC.
Thirteen cases yesterday

In addition, one of these people works in the hospital of the Grigiškės Health Center. The last time a person was working was on August 3. The weekend will mobilize
On Monday, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis announced that the increasing number of virus cases in the country is concerning, urging the population to look at the situation responsibly and follow the recommendations, use protective equipment correctly and comply with hygiene.
S. Skvernelis also invites not to gather unnecessarily for meetings, celebrations and other events and states that the services will operate at a higher capacity for the upcoming holiday herbal weekend.
He also assured that in the event of a second wave of coronavirus in Lithuania, the economy or individual sectors will not stop, and storage will be prioritized over insurance.
“I want to make it very clear at once that we are not really planning to stop the entire economy or individual sectors from controlling the second wave,” the prime minister said on Facebook.
“In the new reality, we will be on the path of ‘safe activity’, which means the correct use of masks, disinfection, safe distances and other measures that we have considered in the COVID-19 management strategy,” he said.
According to S. Skvernelis, priority will be given to the maximum use of protection measures, not to restrictions.
“We will monitor epidemiological indicators and, if necessary, make decisions in individual municipalities and sectors. Of course, if the situation changes drastically and it is really necessary, restrictions are possible, but I hope it is not necessary,” he wrote.
