Although the presidency neither confirms nor denies this fact, according to sources from the delfi.lt news portal, Friday is the last business day of J. V. Žukas in the G. Nausėda team.

The spokesman for President G. Nausėda Antanas Bubnelis told the tv3.lt portal about the decision of J. V. Žukas: “Jonas Vytautas Žukas holds the position of Senior Advisor to the President”.

J. V. Žukas has been working as head of the National Security Group at the Presidential Palace since July 29 of last year.

J. V. Žukas has been the Commander of the Armed Forces since 2014. Previously, he was a military representative in the Lithuanian Mission to NATO and the EU, commanding the Land Forces and other units.

The appointment of J. V. Žukas as adviser to the President was accompanied by criticism of the possible politicization of the army.

G. Nausėda and J. V. Žukas were also criticized for meeting each other through the mediation of the head of the business confederation Valdas Sutkas.
