The government is concerned, among other things, that a shortage of food, medicine and other essentials could occur after Brexit without a deal, and has demanded that suppliers build up stocks for six weeks and organize adequate storage.

“Negotiations are continuing, but the current EU proposal remains unacceptable,” said a source quoted by Bloomberg in the UK government.
According to him, the situation in the negotiations is very difficult, but the parties continue discussions.
Downing Street said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen would discuss post-Brexit trade talks later on Sunday.
A UK government spokesman said Johnson and Von der Leyen “should speak” from 12 noon. Greenwich Mean Time (2 pm Lithuanian).
Britain will leave the single market and the EU customs union later this year. If no other liaison agreement is reached by then, both parties will have to comply with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, which means tariffs, quotas and a lot of paperwork for importers. Furthermore, failed negotiations could jeopardize relations between London and Brussels for many years.
