Širvintos Mayor Živilė Pinskuvienė was the first to reveal that the “patient” lists are, to put it mildly, unreliable. Editorial file photo

Why did Ž.Pinskuvienė suddenly take it upon himself to check the statistics from the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) and the Department of Statistics and find discrepancies in them? Ž.Pinskuvienė explained: “I did not notice such discrepancies. Mayors of the Palanga and Kretinga districts. I have just spoken with the mayor of the Švenčionys district. Are we just a few mayors who care to see real numbers? Everyone sees people who have recovered from COVID-19 infection the longest, and are still on the charts as sick. We get data from the Public Health Center every day and we see what the Statistics Department sends. It points out that 146 people were sick in Širvintos district on February 5, and NVSC writes that 116 people are sick.

I thought where the discrepancy was here and started looking at the lists. I saw that an employee of the Širvintos district municipality, who has been recovering from COVID-19 infection for a long time, has been working for 2.5 months, but her name is on the patient list. And another municipal employee has long since recovered and returned to work, and on the list, she is ill. A “patient” recovered a long time ago and went abroad to work. We started to analyze each case on both lists, calling the health centers, and they work with one electronic patient record system, and NVSC works with another system. Only 23 patients remained in Širvintos district on February 9 instead of 146.

There is another reason for both discrepancies. For example, a person contacted an infected person, then went to the test point to do a “cattle” test, after 14 days, he is healthy and does not say anything to the family doctor. We have already found eighteen of them.

Another case: a person calls an ambulance and is taken to Vilnius, to the “combat” room. Therefore, I am afraid that we do not have real statistics on the number and incidence of COVID-19. And there is no desire to know reality ”.

And how did NVSC react when it discovered these discrepancies? “NVSC first prohibited its employees from providing data to the Širvintos district municipality,” replied Ž.Pinskuvien respondió. – In the past, the municipality was informed every day about the “combat” situation, and now the connection has been broken. I instructed the head of the Operations Center to contact the NVSC and find out what the obstacles are. Why are they treated? We prohibit looking at the lists and checking? For everyone who has worked with us, as if the official controls had begun.

So I ask, do we really want to know the actual number of patients? Everybody is afraid of fighting windmills. If we knew the true number of patients, perhaps there would not be such a strict quarantine. Yes, be careful, you have to wear masks, you have to disinfect your hands, but perhaps there would not be such a cruel closure? After all, people’s lives are falling apart. In the area of the hairdresser, the store, etc., another person was injured. It is a matter of survival. And the big supermarkets are working. The authorities are a bit intimidated by us, but nobody is interested in knowing the real figures. We disclosed two gaps in the accounting for those who recovered. The health minister said: I really know those gaps. The municipality has provided two responsible professionals to work with these lists. We would also give that specialist a salary supplement to find out exactly. Desire is only necessary. But nobody has wishes. “

The mayor of the Kretinga district, Antanas Kalnius, upon learning of the discrepancies discovered by Ž. Well what did you see “TO. Kalnius said: “In fact, the data provided by the respected Živilė also led us to verify the numbers in our district. We checked last Monday and it turned out that those numbers show that 450 residents of our district suffer from the NVSC data system. And it turns out that some people are still sick since September, October, November, December of last year. We went to medical institutions and asked how long we could get sick. We were told that for a maximum of 4-5 weeks, there are isolated cases that get sick longer, but only for half a year.

We thought about where the problem of discrepancies came from. We delve into the essence. We have found that the accounting systems of our doctors and NVSC specialists are not compatible. I don’t really blame our doctors. We received information from medical institutions that as of January 1 of this year, there were only 12 residents of the district with coronavirus. And NVSC reports 230 patients as of January 1. There is definitely a problem with the incompatibility of the system. We depend a lot on the so-called 14 days, how many illnesses will be registered during them and in which group of illnesses Lithuania will be included. But can we safely say that we have obtained accurate statistics? Personally, I cannot state this, because I am not really satisfied with the different data from different institutions. Accounting systems are stuck somewhere. This problem can confuse the statistics of coronavirus cases in Lithuania. “
