The cemetery of the master’s eternal rest became the cemetery of his hometown of Mardasavas (Varėna district). More than a hundred people gathered in Kaunas on Monday afternoon to say goodbye to him.
The famous artist died of a coronavirus in December last year. The teacher died at the age of 77. Due to the strict quarantine conditions in effect at the time, the relatives decided to hold the funeral at a later date.
Since Sunday, the urn with the ashes of the deceased was fed in the concert hall of the Kaunas State Philharmonic, which had seen many moments of the Master’s artistic triumph.
Professor P. Bingelis led the Kaunas State Choir, in which the COVID-19 fireplace broke out for the second time in early November last year.
A person infected by Kaunas with coronavirus was treated in the resuscitation department of the Kaunas clinics, but doctors were unable to save his life.
P. Bingelis was also the oldest active member of the Kaunas Council, relentlessly elected for 25 years. The politician belonged to the Lithuanian Christian Democratic faction Unión Patria.
Last year, on February 16, Professor P. Bingelis received one of the most important state awards from the Presidency – the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit for Lithuania.
This award recognizes the merits of the Artistic Director and Principal Director of the Kaunas State Choir in promoting Lithuanian choral art and culture.
P. Bingelis was born in 1943 in the village of Mardasavas, Varėna district. He graduated from the Lithuanian Conservatory in 1969 and then did an internship at the Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy School of Music in Leipzig.
Since 1969, P. Bingelis has been the artistic director and principal conductor of the Kaunas State Choir.
He has directed song festivals and other festivals in Lithuania for many years, was chief director and artistic director of the Lithuanian World Song Festival and, since 1996, artistic director of the Pažaislis Music Festival.
