“Yes, you probably noticed a gap that you missed. (…) However, there is another point in the resolution that says that the municipality can be left for other important reasons. Isn’t the death of a close relative one of those causes? This is probably the answer there is, ”Aistė Šuksta, a representative of the Minister of Health, told the SNB on Monday.

According to current legislation, funerals in another municipality are only possible due to the “death of close relatives.”

According to the Police Department, “the Civil Code stipulates that close relatives up to and including second degree relatives (parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren) and second degree relatives (siblings) of a lateral line are recognized as close relatives.”

“(…) After the death of Vardenis Pavardenis’s mother and the funeral in another municipality, he and / or his children can go and his wife cannot,” the Police Department website said.

A. Šuksta stated that such text in the resolution has been in force since December, but as a result “no one has encountered obstacles”. He added that he had received guarantees from the Police Department that “all cases are taken into account and no one invests in a relative.”

According to Ramūnas Matonis, representative of the Police Department, the BNS currently assesses these situations individually on the job, “taking into account the criteria of reasonableness”.

“If the family travels and says that it is really necessary for the spouse to leave, the officer makes that decision. (…) If you drive with your relatives seated, we are probably saying that only a close person who has the right can drive” he commented.

R. Matonis also stated that he had no information on the cases in which the spouse would not miss a funeral in another municipality.

Among other things, the police spokesman added that he would discuss with the Health Ministry how to close this loophole.
