Marketplaces and Marketplaces Representative – Due to unclear government communication, some merchants lost access to support

“Really a very unsuccessful and very sad week because only open-air trade has been released in the markets and we all see how big the cold is and what kind of person can stay outside. The pavilions and kiosks are still prohibited from trading, after all, the rainfall and snow are contributing, and not everyone wants to damage their products, ”he told Eltai.

“In general, people have gotten used to going to the market, because now a new tradition of going to the supermarket has formed, (…) and it is very difficult to attract people back,” added V. Butkevičius.

The president of the association pointed out that due to changes in the government’s position on quarantine issues, some traders in the market lost the opportunity to request support.

“Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė promised that (trade – ELTA) would be released, then she changed her position again. (…) A lot of people bought business licenses against these government promises and still couldn’t trade, and now those people can’t. they can claim the support they had, those 260 euros. Here’s the saddest thing, “he said.

When assessing the market tax offset initiated by the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, V. Butkevičius stated that it is too insufficient to cover the costs incurred, but it was incorrectly calculated.

“It is a ridiculously small amount of 300 euros. We ask 1000 euros. The support provided will not cover anything, it is a poorly calculated benefit. We explained this, but no one took our arguments into account. How can the same average be applied throughout Lithuania? It goes without saying that Kaunas, Vilnius, Klaipeda are a separate “republic”, and the rest of Lithuania is also separate. Therefore, the support must be two or three degrees, not everyone can match, “he said.

V. Butkevičius emphasized that due to the unequal conditions of competition, it is intended to apply to the courts.

“There is no clarity, there is no strategy on the part of the Government. In general, we intend to sue because we see that consumer rights and the Competition Law have been violated, as well as the principles of fair and equitable trade, ”he said.

ELTA recalls that by decision of the Government on Monday, a small store with a separate entrance from abroad and open-air commerce will be able to resume operations.

Non-food trade is permitted outdoors, from temporary vending facilities, door-to-door sales, under off-site contracts. It is still forbidden to carry out activities in kiosks and pavilions located in markets.

The Ministry of Economy and Innovation has initiated a market tax refund of $ 2 million. The aid for a non-food trader will amount to 300 EUR. It is estimated that this lump sum will allow market traders to cover the cost of renting a two-month point of sale.
