“Compared to the number of people in Lithuania, perhaps 80-90 thousand. People work during the season (in the markets – BNS), this number is small, but it is better than nothing,” Vytenis Butkevičius told BNS.

It also emphasizes that the support is often subject to difficult conditions, but hopes that merchants will have no difficulty using it.

“I think that everyone who can will only benefit, the government is creating very complex schemes to obtain that compensation, we are talking about that because the compensation is small and it takes a lot of bureaucratic jungle to obtain it.” he said.

The adviser to the Minister for the Economy and Innovation, Vitalija Jankauskaitė-Milčiuvienė, told BNS that a trader may receive compensation of up to 300 euros, but the exact conditions of support have not yet been approved.

According to V. Butkevičius, depending on the place and the area, the rent of the place of business in the markets reaches several hundred euros, but during the quarantine period the rates were reduced.

The president of the association assures that during the quarantine all the small merchants were affected, some of them declared bankruptcy.

“During the quarantine period, small businesses were ruined by the government and simply forgotten. Only large retail chains and large companies were protected. (…) We were eliminated from the non-food market, the damage was enormous, our main competitor, the large retail chains, won very badly, “said V. Butkevičius.

According to him, the sale of non-food products has been prohibited in the market for a long time during the quarantine, but even the turnover of food merchants has decreased: “People not only come to the market for food, but also come from complex purchases. Many did not have a hard time selling food. ”

Acting Economy and Innovation Minister Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas said on Monday that the new measure will allow some recovery for market traders whose activities have been restricted or banned due to the coronavirus.

The government provided funds by redistributing $ 100 million for real estate rental (RE) grants. The amount assigned to them has been reduced to 90 million euros. and the remaining 10 million euros 4 million euros for tourism (6 million euros) and market tax compensation (6 million euros).
