M.Valčiukaitė and D.Karalienė won in 2000 in 7 minutes. 11.29 sec. They were 6.98 seconds behind Romanian leaders Ancuta Bodnar and Simona Radis (7 min. 04.31 sec.). Second were New Zealand rowers Hannah Osborne and Brooke Donoghue. The latter covered the distance in 7 minutes. 09.05 sec. And the Lithuanian rower exceeded 4.74 seconds.
“Different weather conditions. Now it was necessary to swim against the wind, maybe that’s why the boats were arranged differently, there were greater delays, ”said M.Valčiukaitė, who is still trying to catch her breath.
Lithuanian swimmers are happy that the second start was even more successful. For the fans, it’s a great sign heading into Tuesday’s final.
“This start was more successful in every way, in terms of technique, design and result. The first outing was a shock to the body, and today we found our own paddle, we were able to row calmly and steadily and reach the next stage.” said D.Karalienė.
The Lithuanian rowers perfectly controlled the situation during all competitions and seemed calm. D.Karalienė emphasized that stability is especially important at such times.
“When in a certain sense you are quite confident, it is important not to make mistakes, not to overheat,” said D.Karienė.
M.Valčiukaitė added that when you watch it paddle for 1.5 seconds, it may seem like a considerable distance, but when you’re in a boat, the picture is quite different.
“It just came to our attention then. In 1.5 seconds, someone can shoot,” said M. Valčiukaitė.
A great challenge awaits in the Lithuanian final: the Romanians, who already looked very strong in the semifinals, are preparing to take the gold.
“It just came to our attention then. No one will contest. They really do sports together for the second season without losing. They are worth evaluating,” said D.Karalienė and together with M.Valčiukaitė they went to the proceedings.
However, in this swim, M.Valčiukaitė and D.Karalienė advanced without worry: they crossed the 500m mark in fourth place, but then held steady in third place.
The women’s doubles final will take place on Tuesday.
