The improvement of the epidemiological situation makes it possible to ease the requirements for the use of masks, says Mindaugas Stankūnas, a member of the Council of Experts (ET) attached to the Government and a professor at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU).

He believes that the masks could be left to be used in all cases indoors and outdoors where a distance of at least two meters cannot be maintained.

Mr. Stankūnas says that “it is only a matter of time” before it takes effect.

On the social network Facebook, he reported that a meeting of the ET Quarantine Group was held on Friday night to discuss the need to wear medical masks.

According to M. Stankūnas, the effectiveness of the masks was considered: the benefits of wearing them outdoors when there are no other people around or these distances are large enough (two meters or more).

“In practice, a common position has been formed that the improvement of the epidemiological situation allows reducing the current requirements for the use of masks before use: 1) in all cases when we are indoors; 2) In open areas where a distance of at least 2 meters cannot be maintained. I think it is only a matter of time before this wording takes effect, “M. Stankūnas wrote on Facebook on Saturday.

According to M. Stankūnas, in addition to the members of the ET, representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Institute of Hygiene, the Department of Environment and Occupational Medicine of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, and critics of wearing masks participated in The meeting.
