“My decision is not to submit documents,” R. Lazutka told Eltai a few dozen minutes before the deadline for submitting application documents.
According to the professor, he could find more than one reason to change his mind. However, R. Lazutka emphasizes that the fact that he does not belong to the party is the main reason for the decision.
According to him, it was a general mistake to consider the request of the Social Democrats to participate in the elections with them.
“I have to admit that I made a mistake when I agreed to go to the polls. I have criticized people who went to the polls without being members of the party. This is ugly (…). Found a change: V. Targamadze, an education expert, instead of R. Lazutka on the list
The president of the LSDP, Gintautas Paluckas, did not hide his resentment over R. Lazutka’s decision. According to him, the professor’s change of opinion was due to personal reasons.
“There are personal reasons why he can no longer stand for election. However, he will stay with us,” said Eltai, leader of the LSDP, adding that R. Lazutka probably needed to join the party first.
“Apparently, it would have been better for him to join the party before joining the list, according to his ethical standards, and only then, from party positions, participate in the list,” Paluck reasoned.
According to G. Paluckas, R. Lazutka’s place on the list was assumed by the education expert and the consulting professor. Vilija Targamadze.
“She is well known in the educational community, she has her own vision and communicates it widely. She eventually contributed to the preparation of part of our party’s educational program, “said G. Paluckas. Until then, V. Targamadze was not on the LSDP list.
Meanwhile, in the single-member Fabijoniškės, reported G. Paluckas, Alfonsas Brazas, a member of the Vilnius branch and former member of the Vilnius City Council, will seek the mandate under the LSDP flag.
ELTA recalls that in early July, the LSDP published candidates in single-member districts and its list in multi-member districts. Shortly after, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, the mayor of Jonava and president of the Association of Lithuanian Municipalities, which was ranked third on the list, announced that he had been removed from the list of Social Democratic elections. This decision, said M. Sinkevičius, was made on the recommendation of the council of the Jonava branch of the LSDP.
First on the LSDP list is party chairman G. Paluckas. He was not classified and will run in the uninominal constituency of Utena.
After the party chairman in second place on the list, the eldest of the LSDP faction in the Seimas Rasa Budbergytė (Šeškinė – sole member of Šnipiškės). It took first place in the public rankings in early June. The third on the list is Linas Jonauskas, who will participate in the World Lithuanian Single Member. The fourth was Orinta Leiputė (sole member of Kalniečiai), the fifth was the economist prof. R. Lazutka (sole member of Fabijoniškės).
