Will consider new restrictions

Despite the growing number of new cases of COVID-19 infection, experts note that this should not be the most important indicator to assess a pandemic situation.

“What we would like to emphasize the most is that now we should monitor other indicators more closely at a time when countries already have vaccines, large communities have been vaccinated. This is the situation in hospitals, hospitalization rates, the number of seriously ill patients, the situation in resuscitation beds, ”said Minister Arūnas Dulkys after the Government meeting.

As he pointed out, this analysis is ongoing and today these figures are still very small.

The government will discuss more measures for managing COVID-19 on Monday, including proposals to link possible restrictions on the number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals, says Živilė Gudlevičienė, the prime minister’s health adviser.

The prime minister’s adviser told LRT radio on Monday that the government “is already assessing the beginning of the fourth wave” of the exponentially growing number of illnesses and the growing number of COVID-19 patients in hospitals.

“It just came to our knowledge then. Thus, in fact, the proposals were already prepared by SAM in coordination with other ministries, and today those proposals will be considered. (…) The main indicator, however, will be hospital employment and I would not like to say that number, but the number of deaths ”, Ž. Gudlevičienė.

According to her, it is considered that the return of the restrictions should be linked to the indicators of patients in hospitals, one of the limits under consideration: 300 patients with COVID-19 in medical institutions. Currently, according to the Department of Statistics, about 90 patients are treated in hospitals.

“Certain existing restrictions would be considered, both in those municipalities where the number of cases would increase, and possibly restrictions for certain activities would be considered. You have probably heard more than once that the return of an opportunity passport is being considered and that contact activities can only take place for those who have an opportunity passport, ”said the Advisor to the Prime Minister.

Ž. Gudlevičienė confirmed that the possibility of leaving the passport only to people who have been sick or vaccinated is being considered, because the test is a “one-time thing”.

An informal meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers will take place on Monday, and decisions are expected to be made at a government meeting on Wednesday.
