Officials stop the drivers, verify documents, sobriety and ask for an explanation of the purpose for which they enter the capital. Saulius Gagas, the Vilnius County Police Chief, who arrived at the blockade post on the Kaunas-Vilnius highway near Grigiškės, assures that car traffic will increase as needed at night.
In total, during the two Easter holidays, police officers handed over 1,100 cars throughout Lithuania. More than 80 protocols have been drawn up for traffic violations between municipalities.
“These figures reflect reality and have been declining recently. To this day, those numbers are not large, people are aware, listening to calls and complying with quarantine requirements, ”said Saulius Gagas, Vilnius County Police Chief.
According to Ramūnas Matonis, a representative of the police department, during the Easter weekend, residents who went to other municipalities expected to bring their relatives and the sea down.
“Those who did not have the right to go say that we are going to the beach, that we are going to the tourist city. We go for a walk to another municipality, we go with friends, with our parents. People were open enough to say they were driving. Some did not take into account, did not listen to these demands, ”said Ramūnas Matonis, representative of the Police Department.
In total, officials drew up 320 protocols on quarantine violations in two days, more than half of them for contacts and meetings of various households. There was no shortage of intoxicated people attempting to cross municipal boundaries.
“Clearly, a few were found driving vehicles with heavy drinks above 1.5 per thousand. Others were mildly inebriated. Several more drivers were without a driver’s license, they had no right to drive, “added the Vilnius police chief.
“I know that people with drugs have been arrested today. It really is a lot of those various violations while working the positions, ”said R. Matonis.
And throughout the holiday weekend, the officers on duty on the roads decided to cheer and the motorcyclists, who brought Easter delicacies to the officers.
“We have seen that the traffic police and the officers are in the shadows and work hard. Gingerbread is meant to be a joy, so we came up with the idea of frying and stirring, ”said the motorcyclist.

Before the long weekend, the mayor of the capital expected that about 12 thousand people would be vaccinated during the long weekend, according to preliminary data, up to 10 thousand people were vaccinated with AstraZeneca in 3 days.
“On the one hand, we are very happy, on the other hand, we regret that not everyone can get vaccinated. We receive many inquiries from police officers, from statutory employees who have direct contact, ”emphasized Lina Koriznienė, director of administration.
So far, the municipality only vaccinates people according to priority groups.
“Because I have a chronic illness that I would not wish on anyone. And I think – the month of April should come for me, and here as an Easter gift at the beginning of April – I am very happy. “

It is true that the Vilnius City Council intends to vaccinate with the AstraZeneca vaccine tomorrow, so people who did not get vaccinated during the three holidays will also be able to do so tomorrow.
