The President wished E. Bagdon’s family, relatives and all colleagues who worked with him strength and concentration during this difficult hour.

“We lost a talented Lithuanian diplomat who worked for the state with great dedication for many years. Our condolences to the family,” Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said on Saturday.

E. Bagdon has been ambassador to the United Arab Emirates since 2019, prior to that he served as Lithuanian ambassador to Israel.

In 1991-1992, E.Bagdonas was spokesperson for the Office of International Relations of the Supreme Council of Lithuania (Seimas Restaurativo), in 1992-1993 he headed the Department of Inter-Parliamentary Relations of the Seimas, in 1994-1997 he worked as consul of the Embassy of Lithuania in Ukraine.

Since 1997 he has held senior positions in the departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 2001 to 2004, he served as Lithuanian Ambassador to Italy, Ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro, the Swiss Confederation, and the Republic of Malta.

From 2004 to 2006, he was an advisor to President Valdas Adamkus and director of the Foreign Policy Group. Later he held the position of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Department of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2007–2012 – Lithuanian Ambassador to Belarus. Later he was Director of the Eastern Neighborhood Policy Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

E. Bagdon received the January 13 Commemorative Medal, the Commander’s Cross “For Merits to Lithuania”, as well as state awards in many other countries.
