The amendments to the laws on investment, employment and the legal status of foreigners provide that all transferred employees can apply for a residence permit in Lithuania. His suitability for the job would be decided by the investor himself. Nor would it be assessed whether family members meet the needs of the labor market: they would have the right to work in Lithuania and would receive a residence permit of the same duration.

This provision would apply to companies investing in Lithuania from third countries that agree to commit to investing in the country at least 1.45 million LTL. and create at least 20 jobs. The Seimas has not yet considered amendments to the laws. If approved by the Seimas, the amendments will go into effect on June 1 of this year.

Amendments to the Government’s resolutions on duty-free and import VAT are also being prepared. Its aim is to establish that natural persons entering Lithuania under the simplified procedure for issuing national visas and who wish to obtain a residence permit in Lithuania can import their movable property without paying customs duties or import VAT.

At present, only people who already have a residence permit in Lithuania can waive such taxes or who provide a one-time guarantee from a bank or insurance institution, which is often difficult for people from Belarus to obtain.

Since August last year, when the massive protests against the authoritarian regime of A. Lukashenko began in Belarus, many companies founded by that country or their entrepreneurs have moved to Lithuania. Among them are Belarus-based US giant Epam Systems, creator of the popular World of Tanks game, Wargaming, women’s health app developer Flo Health, software companies Coherent Solutions, Godel Technologies and others.

Currently, around 110 Belarusian companies are interested in investing and relocating to Lithuania, of which 42 have already started relocation processes in Lithuania, and 36 companies are still considering and choosing the final relocation location.
