Lithuania is not yet considering Latvian methods to vaccinate employees: we will take other measures

Also in Latvia, unvaccinated people can use contact services only when it is not possible to provide them remotely. This means that unvaccinated people, such as a GP, will not be able to attend when there is no need for contact. How does Latvian society react to such a government decision?

At that time, in Lithuania, the Ministry of Health is considering the introduction of the obligation to carry out periodic tests of suppliers, cafeteria workers, public transport drivers and carriers, event managers and other professions that are not vaccinated by coronavirus and free of COVID-19. This was discussed on the “Daily News” program of “Žinių radio”.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Živilė Simonaitytė, explained that if the proposal is approved, taxpayers would pay for the tests necessary for a person to work in contact.

“We are talking about adding new groups to the existing resolution. The procedure is not new, it has been in operation for several months in five or six sectors. We are talking about expanding these groups and adding new ones,” explained Ž. Simonaitytė.

The deputy minister did not waste her promises that this measure will undoubtedly be enough to avoid the need for quarantine in the future.

“If we finally know or have a tool that is reliable, we will probably adapt it. Even vaccinations are just one tool. All other measures related to personal hygiene, distance and the use of masks and other measures are listed below.

We probably understand for ourselves that several new strains of the virus are spreading both in Lithuania and in the world. (…) One hundred percent of some type of guarantee is not very possible to give ”, Ž said. Simonaitytė.

Comparing the situations in Lithuania and Latvia, the Deputy Minister was pleased that our vaccination rate is ten percentage points higher and is growing compared to Latvia.

“It just came to our attention then. Probably all states are seeking measures to maximize the protection of the entire society against economic closure, the introduction of strict quarantine conditions, and that (…) the decision of some people not to be vaccinated does not I would imprison everyone else ”, Ž. Simonaitytė.

Solutions like Latvia are not considered

The vice minister assured that in Lithuania solutions similar to those of Latvia are not being considered.

“Each state has its own decisions”, Ž. Simonaitytė.

A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health said that between five and six thousand people kept coming to receive the first dose of the vaccine on a regular day.

“We cannot say that vaccination has been stopped in Lithuania. Probably the main thing we notice is the expansion and relocation of vaccination sites closer to human places (…), that vaccination is supported and assured,” said Ž. Simonaitytė .

The Ministry of Health is also considering the lottery as a means to promote vaccination.

“There are many measures that are being considered. They range from additional information tools to additional promotional tools. The lottery is one of the possible incentives. We also see practices when they operate in other states. After all, we consider practices in our regional vaccination centers, where lotteries were used for vaccination there, ”Ž said. Simonaitytė.

So far, the ministry does not have an unequivocal answer on when the booster vaccination with the third vaccine will begin.

“We are discussing the situation with immunologists. Antibodies are not the only element against which immunity is measured. There is a lot of research on immunity, both after how long and after how much vaccine to administer. We cannot say unequivocally that the third dose should be administered after six months or by measuring only the antibody titer.

At this stage, we are still at the stage where we value scientific information. (…) We see that at the current stage there is really no need to revaccinate people ”, Ž said. Simonaitytė.

Aurelija Žvirblienė, a professor at the Vilnius University Life Sciences Center, said the easiest way to measure immunity is with antibodies drawn from the blood.

But, of course, immunity is not just about antibodies. It is very difficult to measure other indicators, cellular immunity, which is also likely to develop both after vaccination and after relapse, ”said A. Žvirblienė.

According to the researcher, there are not even commercial tests that allow the study of cellular immunity. That is still being done unless in scientific labs.

“Therefore, it is quite problematic to assess whether that protection is maintained. But this can be seen in the data of many states that have vaccinated their citizens. (…) They show the survival of the protection,” said A. Žvirblienė.

According to the researcher, looking at the data, we can see that we have already climbed the first step with vaccination.

“It just came to our knowledge then. The sun is shining, there are a lot of people outside. Seasonality contributes and slows the spread of even that dangerous delta variety,” said A. Žvirblienė.

According to the researcher, there is not much data on which people cannot be vaccinated against cysticides.

“We should follow the vaccine brochures. There are very few medical conditions in which vaccination would not be possible. One of these health conditions is when a person is allergic to any of the components of the vaccine,” said A. Žvirblienė.

Speaking of pregnant women, the interlocutor pointed out that doctors take the position that if the woman herself wants, she can be vaccinated.

“If we look at the vaccine descriptions, then there just haven’t been any studies with pregnant women,” said A. Žvirblienė.

For the third dose, the scientist would recommend following the manufacturer’s recommendations. He said that he would not agree with the rush and that Lithuania would be the first to start revaccination.
