According to WDSF Vice President Sport Nenad Jeftičius, the entire sport dance community remains grateful to the Slovak Federation for its efforts to host the European Championships in such difficult conditions, but we must obey national decisions. Do not apply.
Vaidotas Lacitis and Veronika Golodneva, who announced the transition from amateur to professional sport exactly one year ago, were preparing to represent Lithuania in this championship.
Since 2007 Vaidotas and Veronika, who have danced as a couple and became a couple a few years ago, have announced that they will defend Lithuania’s honor in the professional ranks after fourth place at the crowded Siemens Arena last year in Vilnius. Veronika, who originated in Russia, also received Lithuanian citizenship last year.
The long-awaited debut for sports dance professionals and amateurs has yet to materialize. In the first months, V. Lacitis and V. Golodneva prepared for new beginnings, and then the pandemic brought not only sports to a stop, but the world as well. The invitation to delegate dancers to the European Professional Championships, which reached the Lithuanian Sports Dance Federation (LSŠF) in October, was very gratifying. “We miss the competition a lot, we rest, we train seriously. We hope that nothing changes and cancels the championship ”, V. Lacitis said then.
According to Vytautas Bankauskas, head of the LSŠF Professional League, the start of the Lacičiai couple would also promise medals to Lithuania: Finally, we received both the requests and an invitation from the International Federation.
V. Lacitis and V. Golodneva have recently shown a very mature dance and have really turned to professional sports over time. Right now, not only in Europe but also in the world, I think that only a couple of professionals could pose a serious challenge for them. It is good that the athletes are already mature and as personalities; they are currently training intensively in Vilnius and will definitely start ”.
Throughout their careers, V. Lacitis and V. Golodneva have already won medals in the European Amateur Standard Dance Championship (twice won the bronze), they have reached the final of the World Championship since 2015 (among the six best duos of the world) and have also won the European Standard Dance Championship. cup titles, Lithuanian champion and vice-champion.
The Lithuanian dancers would have started in international professional competitions after a two-year break. The last time our country had representatives in this category was in 2018. Then Donatas Vėželis and Lina Chatkevičiūtė were the first in Europe and the second in the world. Mirko Gozolis and Edita Daniūtė won the medals of the world and European professional standard dance championships for our country five years earlier.
