The Foreign Ministry predicted that Lithuania will speak in the general debate on technical assistance and capacity building at the 45th session of the Human Rights Council on October 5.
The Lithuanian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Andrius Krivas, expressed Lithuania’s support for the work of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (HRC) in providing technical assistance to Sakartvel and welcomed Sakartvel’s cooperation with the HRC Office.
Lithuania also expressed deep concern about the continuing deterioration of the human rights situation in the Russian-occupied Sakartvell regions of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali (South Ossetia), in particular about the illegal marking of the “state border” by Russia, which restricts freedom of movement and affects human health and education. and property.
Lithuania recalled its strong support for Sacartwell’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within internationally recognized borders.
The Human Rights Council is made up of 47 elected member states of the United Nations. The main objective of this organization is to promote universal respect for human rights and freedoms and to respond to their violations. Lithuania is a candidate for the Human Rights Council for the period 2022-2024 and currently works in the Council as an observer.
