“From 9 to 7 new cases of coronavirus are related to foci in health care institutions,” added R. Lingienė.

The main foci of coronavirus are currently located at the Kaunas Clinical Hospital, the Santara Clinics and the Vilnius Clinical Hospital.

“Of 9 coronavirus cases, 1 case was confirmed for an Alytus County resident, which is a case that has spread in the family. Another case was registered in Kaunas County and is related to the fireplace. He is an employee of the Department of Reanimation and Intensive Care of the Clinical Hospital of Kaunas. The other 7 cases were recorded in Vilnius County. 3 cases were identified for the Santara clinic staff.

2 cases are related to the approach in the Santara clinics, the relatives of an employee became infected. One of the employees of the infected clinics in Santara worked in the Emergency Department of the University Hospital of the Vilnius Republic, but on May 21 he was isolated by the NVSC order due to high-risk contact with the patient in this hospital. Hopefully, the infection will not spread from this person to the health care center.

In addition, a case related to the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital was identified. There is still one case in the epidemiological diagnosis phase, the circumstances are not yet known, that is, a resident of the Vilnius district, “reported R. Lingienė.

Coronavirus is a virus with a new structure that has never caused human infections before. 1) a person with an acute respiratory infection (sudden onset of at least one of the following symptoms: fever, cough, shortness of breath) and has traveled or lived in areas where COVID-19 disease (coronavirus infection) is occurring or spreading in the community for 14 days before the onset of symptoms;

2) a person with symptoms of an acute respiratory infection and who has been in close contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19 disease (coronavirus infection) during the 14 days prior to the onset of symptoms;

3) a person with a severe acute respiratory infection (fever and at least one symptom of respiratory illness: cough, shortness of breath) and who requires hospitalization and no other etiologic cause has been identified to explain these symptoms.
